Gates opened at 5:50am on Tuesday, September 7, 2021.Two R-62A six-car trains assigned in use... Track 1 = n/#1936-1933-1935-1932-1939-1955/n. Track 4 = n/#1943-1944-1947-1948-1908-1949/s. First train in service was on Track 1 leaving at approximately 6:00am from Grand Central to Times Square. Second train in service would follow on track 4. All middle seats in each R-62A car have been removed, with seats near car ends left intact. No more gap fillers at Times Square, leaving the ones on the southbound platform at Union Square-14th Street on the IRT Lexington Avenue Line (#4, #5 and #6 trains) remain as is. The bumper block had been shifted eastward (southerly) on track 1, which has been partially filled in, along with the former Track 3 completely filled in though on the new platform. Free direct transfer between the IND 6th Avenue Line ("B", "D", "F" and "M" trains) and the Shuttle platform is available, not ADA compliant. There are doors that can be closed in the passageway corridor when the shuttle is not in service between 12:00 midnight and 6:00am, plus gates on the IND platform level. And so it goes... -William A.
