Posted by ren on Fri Dec 25 21:21:58 2015, in response to Re: PATH 143 arrives at TMNY, posted by ENY Blitz 5107 on Fri Dec 25 20:25:57 2015. Mike Hanna addressed that too. He said neither you nor Garces can lawfully keep me from visiting TMNY or volunteering there - it's a public museum. The fact that you wish to keep TMNY as some kind of private clubhouse (though it's publicly financed) shows your sense of provincialism and xenophobia and entitlement. You want to keep TMNY to yourself - now they're your private toys, right? The volunteers are just your slaves, huh?I never stole anything from there, EVER. Risely gave me certain items. In her FUCKING OFFICE. (I did NOT ask for them) When she asked these items be returned, THEY WERE PROMPTLY RETURNED. I never heard any accusations of theft from anyone. Another member helped himself, without authorization, but he returned the items too when asked. He is still there because Mick likes him. I did NOT steal. END OF STORY. And you certainly did not dispense justice, just your vendetta. You want to be fair? Return the stickers. If you feel that strongly about me, do so. Otherwise, you're a value-leeching hypocrite. Yeah, I'll admit I fucked up. I paid for stickers and tools and I should not have gotten involved in any of this. I will tell you this though: TMNY has a clock running on it. It is a slow running clock, measured in years, as opposed to minutes. Let's compare it to a soccer match. TMNY is down four goals, 4-0. It is early in the second half. There is no sense of urgency, teamwork or active striving towards winning. Rather, there is drifting and this hazy romantic illusion of hope that somehow millions of dollars will materialize out of nowhere while the team players pat each other on the back after slapping on yet another meaningless paint job. Meanwhile, Kingston is watching all of this closely. Unlike TMNY, the city already has a solid plan laid out and ready. Kingston knows what is going on at TMNY. When Pagan drove us up there, he wondered why TMNY was not listed on road signs as a tourist attraction. Indeed, as we drove up to and through Kingston, TMNY was never once advertised as a tourist attraction anywhere. The reasons for this are clear: TMNY is an eyesore. It is not a museum, it is a junkyard. It lacks profits, even though the nearby Catskill RR is rolling in dough. It is an embarrassment to Kingston. That is why the city was encouraging the rails to trails people to plow right up to the rear fence of the museum. The rails to trails designation literally circled around TMNY. Kingston is being patient - they are biding their time, waiting to see what happens. They are giving TMNY a chance. Eventually, the clock will run out and Kingston will swoop in. The property will be seized, and the cars auctioned off. Brooklyn will then swoop in for the Low-V and whatever else it wants. Everything else will either go to other museums or get scrapped, like the PATH black cars and the Queensborough Bridge Trolley, the last remaining one. This is why Brooklyn will not pay freight to TMNY. They know they will eventually get that Low-V without paying the extra freight for sending another car up to TMNY. Right now, it costs 15-20k annually to run TMNY. That money comes from the trustees' private money. That is why McGinty, Pagan and Garces act like it's their private little fiefdom. But there is a cost to this possessiveness. Neglect has taken a steep toll. Incompetence and immaturity are the guiding forces at TMNY and have been for a long time. That won't continue on forever. One can only hope that when the shit hits the fan up there, the other museums will take the exhibits into their collections and properly restore them. Because, believe me, McGinty and Garces will not . They have been there since 1987 and look what they achieved. And when the hammer comes down, it will be the gang that couldn't shoot straight that will be terminated from any further involvement with the collection. |
