Maybe six or seven years ago I attended a public hearing about extending the N or R to LaGuardia. I think the hearing was held at the Kaufman Studio. The chief proposal seemed to be a squealing turn east at 21st Avenue or Ditmars Blvd and a dive into a tunnel. Anyhow, it was obvious that residents knew that elevated subway trains create a din and they opposed it strongly no matter where it would run, even through Sunnyside and Woodside. An elevated route over the Grand Central Parkway was also presented and rejected by many.--- Helen Marshall was a speaker. |
