There is an interesting question as to why the Queensboro Plaza station is elevated in the first place? Take away the usual explanation of economics - as in money, where there other reasons. IF, as in if money were no object even in the 1920's would the Flushing and Astoria lines be built as underground subways instead of as elevated lines? The one thing to consider is the connection to/from the 59th Street for the Second Avenue elevated line.

Definitely transit history, as well as the look of NYC would be different if certain events were changed just a bit. In any case, just fun stuff to think about.
