The 39 Ave. stop would be kept as the portal would start just north of there, where the street runs uphill northbound. There could be a new entrance near 38 Ave. But putting the portal in would eliminate the stop at 36 Ave, where there is no connecting bus line and little business activity. Underground, the Broadway stop would be kept, given the busy commercial area there and the bus line. But it would also have a south entrance at 34 Ave. The 30 Ave. and Astoria Blvd. stops are fairly close and could be combined, with entrances at both those avenues. The Ditmars stop would be rebuilt to be actually at Ditmars rather than 200 feet south, facilitating the bus transfer. And being underground at that point would make it politically feasible to extend the line to LAG.

Putting the line underground would have many benefits (including ADA accessibility to each new station), but it would cost too much.
