I have a very strong suspicion that when the Astoria Line was built, it was intended that the structure be continued further on, turning east along Ditmars hence the reason for the statin being a bit south of Ditmars itself. However, Lefferts Blvd station also ends slightly before Lefferts itself so it’s not that uncommon for certain stations to be a little off from the streets for which they are named. By the way, it was common practice for the BMT to used just neighborhood names as destinations for certain lines. The BMT steels had the destinations, “Jamaica’ and “Canarsie” rather than 168 St or Rockaway Pky on their signs.Even “Coney Island” was not the actual name of the station at that location which is officially “Stillwell Avenue.” Although I have not seen any pictures of the IRT cars when they ran to Astoria, but i Believe they carried the full name of the state which was originally “Ditmars Avenue” before that thoroughfare was upgraded to a boulevard like Lefferts was. The BMT was a bit inconsistent with their train signals since Myrtle Av trains read “Metropolitan Av” and Fulton St trains read “Lefferts Av.” rather than merely “Middle Village” or “Richmond Hill."
