If there were $5 coins I wouldn't use them either. It's not a matter of value. The only difference would be that I would go to the bank more often to change it back into paper, which is not a big deal, as it takes less than 3 or 4 minutes, and I pass the bank all the time anyway. just like you've been conditioned to put ketchup on good tasty french fries or ice in already cold soda even though those things don't make any sense whatsoever. I don't use ketchup on my fries, and when I use self service soda, I never put ice in with it. I use ice so infrequently, that the ice trays in my freezer every so often I just clean them out by dumping them into the sink, and refresh them. The only time I use ice in a beverage is if I make an alcoholic drink, and that's quite rare at home. next you will tell us why wearing white after Labor Day is sheer madness. ???? I wear shorts into December, and T shirts year round, so the last thing I would be worrying is what color clothes I am wearing. |

The primary reason the US never went with dollar coins was that at first Treasury was going to stop printing dollar bills, so the dollar coins were minted, at the last minute Treasury reversed itself and continued printing dollar bills and the coins went into the Federal Reserve where they stay. Lots and lots of dollar coins. WalMart tried giving dollar coins as change, the customers didn't want them. Right now (2012) the only place you can get dollar coins in Baltimore is the Metro (subway) where to by a fare ticket with a $5.00 Bill for a one way fare ($1.50) you get dollar coins as part of your change. The Banks don't stock them either. |

We have been down this road several times with different types of dollar coins. All failed to catch on. What may work in another country, such as Canada, may not work here. In these hard times, do you actually propose spending millions to develop yet another domestic failure? We have more than enough of failures now! |
