Guess what, Luch, seminaries all over the country are lacking students. Many Catholic churches don't even have a single priest assigned, they share priests with other parishes in the area. Many seminaries graduate 3 or 4 men every year in Dioceses with several dozen parishes when they need 100 or more.

First of all, Dan Lawrence, you said, no promised, to put me on your killfile. Why you continue to stalk and harass me makes no sense.

Guess what, Luch, seminaries all over the country are lacking students.

I know. I read the literature from the Brooklyn Archdiocese.

A Diocese with several dozen parishes sure doesn't need more than 3 or 4 new priests a year.

Many Catholic churches don't even have a single priest assigned, they share priests with other parishes in the area.

Ok, Dan Lawrence. Can you name a few such parishes? Parishes sometimes share priests for Spanish mass. There may be parishes in other parts of the country that have this problem, but I don't know if it's a problem in NYC or Florida.

Now, Dan Lawrence, back to the marriage thing. I agree with the Church's decision forbidding priests from marrying. We're the Catholic Church, not some Evangelical preacher like Rick Warren who rolled into town with his wife and established a Superchurch.

If the Church allows priests to marry, it would be a mess. What happens when a wife files for divorce. Health insurance for families? It's not going to happen, and it's not a pressing issue for the Church.

Even if the church wanted to mold in the image sought by the Tony G's of the world, at this point it may be hard to do so. He can't understand that an Evangelical can get away with it.

Is it? Does this mean that condom use is increased where Catholics have less influence? That's interesting.

Truth is, condom use is increased in younger age groups. Those with many partners and those who want to avoid an unwanted pregnancy use condoms. As you get older, settle down, and have sex with women who don't get their period, you won't even think of condoms, and it has nothing to do with the influence of the Church.

The church is called The City of Refuge. It's inside a converted warehouse in an unincorporated area called Rosewood, although the church prefers to identify it as being in the slightly more upscale Gardena. Despite being in a converted warehouse it's pretty nice inside. It's a megachurch, but with a focus on ministering to the so-called "inner city". In addition to regular black folk, they have former gang bangers, former prostitutes, ex-cons, etc.

The service lasted a little over 2 hours with about half being the choir singing. The "scene" was all of the women that were there. ;)

What this priest did protects the integrity of Catholic doctrine and practices.
The RCC is not some kind of buffoonish church with screaming freaks posing as pastors blindly calling out to "GEEZZUHHSSSAAHHH!" with clergy whose religious training amounts to a DVD course through some Web-based "ministry".
The RCC doesn't do "flavor of the month".

One can agree or disagree with their doctrine but give the RCC credit for upholding a semblance of intellectual consistency and integrity.

For the record, I don't believe that Johnnie In The Petri Dish is a person, I think that the worst of the worst criminals need to be liquidated after a fair trial and appeals, I believe that some wars are justified and I think that their stance on homosexuality and contraception has caused more harm then good.
I also believe that women should be ordained and get this....I don't believe in Confession (to a priest). Never did. I've never confessed.
I didn't even do Confession before First Communion.

The priests, nuns and deacons all know this about me.

I'm not gonna make bishop anytime soon.

Because Catholic bashers are obsessed with the Church and make it known that the church is anti-contraception. Same way Obama haters dig up Lola Soetoro, school registration showing Obama as a Muslim student, Rev Wright, or combing through his books, Catholic bashers are vocal about the Church's stance on contraception, and get the word out more than the Church itself.

Yes, it does. Not all of them (e.g. Mormons), but I doubt that many of them have a lot of adherents in Africa. What's the deal with the Anglican Church?

Africa

Because we all know that AIDS in Africa is the most important cause in the world.

No other religion has a responsibility to promote the use of condoms. Only the Catholic church does, and with a special focus on Africa. F*ck the rest of the world and all other religions get a waiver. Now I get it.

Something not being "the most important cause" does not automatically make it unworthy of consideration. You're guilty of another fallacy.

No other religion has a responsibility to promote the use of condoms.

They all do, but only in the case of the Catholic Church is it the responsibility of a single individual.

Now I get it.

No, you don't. You almost never do, and this is not one of those times.

Why should the Catholic church be held to a higher standard?

Because on issues of life, it holds itself to a higher standard.

Also as Spider-Pig said, the Catholic Church has a centralized hierarchy with a clear leader and with influence over more than a billion people. They are much more important than any other denomination.

Even non-Catholics pay attention when the Pope or high ranking Vatican officials say something.

The Church has deliberately chosen to protect the life of Timmy The Spermatozoa over that of Mary the Grown Woman even though everyone knows that Timmy will KILL her.

Pope Benedict did say that condoms are acceptable to stop the spread of AIDS.

Only with regard to homosexual sex since they cannot reproduce and where Timmy The Spermatozoa is gonna die anyway.

He never revised his position regarding heterosexual sex. That's irresponsible and borderline genocidal.

Yup. Here's how it works: When the Church can be smeared and mocked, it's "worthy", like AIDS in Africa. When the Church can't be blamed, it's "not the responsibility of a single individual".

It's laughable to suggest that the Catholic Church should promote contraception and other religions are not expected to.

I think very few people object to the fact that the Church doesn't promote contraception. They object to the fact that the Church strongly emphasizes that you put your immortal soul in peril if you use contraception, even though the alternative (not using contraception) puts the health and lives of your wife and children in peril.

One of Jesus's strongest staements (and many people say don't take it too literally) is "If your hand offends you cut it off. Better to go through life with one hand than to spend eternity in Gehenna." But even Jesus at his most extreme doesn't say "If your wife's hand offends you, cut it off."

They are important to people who are Catholic. To others, not so much.

So what if the Church has a "centralized hierarchy"? Is this to say that all other religions are a bunch of loosely-knit non-influential religions?

It's silly to say that the Church should promote contraception while all other religions get a waiver and don't have to say a word.

Even non-Catholics pay attention when the Pope or high ranking Vatican officials say something.

Usually they pay attention to find something to mock, like the Church's stance on contraception. It's not like they are paying attention for spiritual guidance. If not for Catholic-bashing, I wouldn't even know the Church's stance on contraception.
