It's laughable to suggest that the Catholic Church should promote contraception and other religions are not expected to.I think very few people object to the fact that the Church doesn't promote contraception. They object to the fact that the Church strongly emphasizes that you put your immortal soul in peril if you use contraception, even though the alternative (not using contraception) puts the health and lives of your wife and children in peril. One of Jesus's strongest staements (and many people say don't take it too literally) is "If your hand offends you cut it off. Better to go through life with one hand than to spend eternity in Gehenna." But even Jesus at his most extreme doesn't say "If your wife's hand offends you, cut it off." |
