Yep ... but the final cord was cut back around BSD 6. It's been their own stuff since then and if you actually check out the code, everything is there except for some pieces of the mach kernel itself. THAT code (XNU) can be found here:http://opensource.apple.com/source/xnu/ Ever since Tim replaced Steve (who wanted to keep the source to himself) Apple has come to realize that they're really a hardware company and a fashion statement and control of the source isn't as important as letting developers actually see the internals and write better code. That openness has really been magnified as we now are merging iOS and OSX code into a nicely compatible single world under XCODE and SWIFT using CLANG as the compiler. We've even handed all of that back to BSD as well. Linux has google. :) |
