Because all of that old code made for serious dents in performance. Trying to drop through code to determine what CPU it wants cut performance in half. The translations from Motorola CPU's to Intel instruction functions cut it down by better than 600%. Supporting the old CPU's caused OS X to turn to taffy.It HAD to go. The last set of former Motorola CPU instructions to keep it went away in Lion. We REALLY had to. :( |
