The people who complained about "yellow" need to get lives. Chicago and Washington have yellow lines and no one in those cities complains about it. Who cares if he doesn't know any of them? The folks who complained had nothing better to do with their lives and they are forcing MARTA to waste money printing new maps with "Gold" instead of "Yellow". MARTA is in a precarious financial position and the State of Georgia doesn't allocate money to they system. MARTA relies heavily on fares and money from the two counties it runs in - Fulton and DeKalb. Now it must take some of that money and waste it on new maps - money that could be put toward buying new buses and railcars or expanding the system.Let's hear it for political correctness. Putting the hurt on America for four decades now. Yeah! Way to go! |

However, those are completely different situations.MARTA just went to the line color system within the past year if I'm not mistaken. The systems that you mentioned had the majority of their lines designated with those colors for at least 2 decades. If someone suddenly had a problem with WMATA's Yellow Line right now and the fact it goes through Chinatown, they'd be rightfully laughed out of the room! The costs and confusion of "renaming" the lines would be astronomical! Since MARTA's existing line was just changed to Yellow, it shouldn't be too confusing. Plus, the fact that the group would accept the line as "Gold" makes things a lot easier, as they could theoretically keep the same maps posted in stations and trains and just slap a Gold decal over the word Yellow. If they demanded something completely different, like Purple, then it would be a bigger deal. |

I'm not sure it would have the same effect. The idea of a "Yellow Line" existing wasn't really the issue. The fact that the existing line, which has a significant Asian rider base and serves the Asian dominated community in the region, was renamed "Yellow" was what annoyed the group of people. If another MARTA line was dubbed the Yellow Line, they likely wouldn't care at all.The fact that they are willing to accept the line as "Gold" makes the request a lot more reasonable and respectable than demanding that a Red line or Brown Line be changed to another color name. Dunno what else you would call a Brown Line unless you get into "crazy" names like Chocolate, Mahogany, or Mocha. |
