No one is saying cut R service to Brooklyn, if anything the extra R trains are basically extra trains to fill in for the gaps left by the G when it doesn't run on Queens Blvd on weekends. So you can think of these R trains as seperate from the regular R trains that runs from Queens to Brooklyn. That is it. Brooklyn could use an extra set or so, but Queens needs the additional service to fill in for the loss of the G that is why there's a need for special short turn R trains. |

There are two trains serving local stops on Queens Boulevard at normal times. There is one train serving local stops on Fourth Avenue at normal times. Ergo: Queens needs more service than Brooklyn on those particular tracks.*IF* the (V) or some other service is not running in Queens the suggestion was to add more (R) trains, and maybe turn them at Whitehall, since the do not appear to be needed in Brooklyn. Of course, simply running the (V) 16/7 also fills this need and offers more flexibility. ROAR |

At City Hall, you have to clean out the train, and crawl slowly into a relay track.By cleaning out the train at Canal to go into City Hall, you lose time making sure passengers are off, AND plug the road behind you. At Whitehall, you don't have to worry about passengers on the train, or a train waiting behind you. |

Off tipic: I also think the J would be better off going to Broad on weekends. But not into the relay at Broad. Trains should just switch ends on the s/b track and leave the station like that. But budget concerns won't let that happen. But it would not take longer than cleaning out at Chambers, and going into the relay, switching ends, and coming back out again. |

I rode on a (W) train and on an (R) train last year. There were delays getting into the pocket, and that delayed the (R)s.During the time that (W) trains would need to use City Hall LL you really would not be laying up trains anyway. The point is *if* only (W) trains served Astoria, then you would need many more of them, more than could possibly be turned at Whitehall. Thus some are turned at City Hall and others at 9th Avenue. Why would we take the (N) train out of Astoria? Well to send it (and the (Q)) up to 125th Street, of course. LION seems to think that the line should have more service than said (Q) could provide. Also Broadway Express trains should run to Second Avenue while Broadway Local trains should run via the 60th Street Tunnel. ROARING |

Who said anything about reducing F and R in Brooklyn? He's talking about having additional trains for 'dedicated' service. [Like how the D has extra trains running for the Yankees special] only Queens would get additional service where the extras could terminate at 2nd Av and Whitehall respectively. |

There is no need for the additional Brooklyn bound trains [so long as the current R headways remains the same]. Otherwise there won't be a need to split the R in the first place. The whole point was to have additional R service to cover for the G's which won't be running on QB anymore. |
