Even if you ride the full length (38 minutes) of the MFSE, the new harder seats are tolerable. The padded ones were more comfortable, but they did not hold up well. The story is that when the M4's were ordered, they wanted the best , most comfortable seats for the riding public. Now we know the rest of the story. |

South Ken - delightful waste of a good station.Embankment - used to be a loop terminus, hence the curvature. Camden Town - Oxford Street of the North. Also note the absolutely crass layout of the station.   So you liked the Pendolinos?  So what was Thunderbird 57316 FAB 1 on the head of?  I spy the Chapter 11 Choo Choo! Oh, and the bus is much quicker from King's Cross to the British Museum than all those escalators to and from the Picc... but 1973 Stock's much better than any bus! Then your evening looks a bit complex! I see you enjoyed the destination indicators at South Ken. And I don't think I've ever seen a shot from the angle of the last one before! Nice pics! |

I think the walk from Russell Square to the BM is better than the walk from TCR—you get to enjoy a real lift (or walk up the 194 stairs!) and then pass through bits of the University of London, like Senate House, which is worthwhile taking a look at the outside.But then I’m biased: my hall of residence was in Tavistock Square, just round the corner, and I studied for a while in the Computer Science Department of Birkbeck College, which is in the North Wing of Senate House. |

(And it doesn't work as well north/eastbound.) But then I’m biased: my hall of residence was in Tavistock Square, just round the corner, and I studied for a while in the Computer Science Department of Birkbeck College, which is in the North Wing of Senate House. My usual targets are the BM and the Institute of Classical Studies Library (certainly worth the Hellenic Society's annual sub, if you can find where it's moved to this week). |

If you see the iconic terracotta tiles and arched windows, you can be sure that the building was once a headhouse of the Piccadilly, Northern or Bakerloo lines.And within the Circle, there are IINM just two surviving that aren't on the Picc: Goodge Street and Oxford Circus. Goodge Street isn't exactly the most used station inside the Circle, whilst you generally can't see Oxford Circus station for the crowds, so the Leslie Green headhouses have a strong (if slightly erroneous) association with the Piccadilly Line. Oh, and even London Underground's cartographers only think there are three... ;-) |

But Sissister and Sissiter are also the same place.It's effectively the odd one out as it's the one that's generally pronounced intuitively. Of course, -cesters aren't the only tricky placenames. I got a DVD for Christmas, narrated by an American, including the stretch of the East Coast Main Line from Burr Wick to Edinburrow. |
