If you can't see past that, I'm sorry.I'm here to provide sound advice to those at the museum. There just isn't justification for three museums given the size of the railfan community. If the collections, funding, and volunteer efforts were consolidated, a lot more would get down. This splintering and fracturing doesn't do anyone any good. Put your egos aside. Think. |

Posted by AlM on Fri Dec 25 22:34:06 2015, in response to The problem with TMNY, posted by arli3835 on Fri Dec 25 21:25:43 2015. I know nothing about TMNY. But I figured if they're a non-profit there are public records about them.Guidestar.org makes non-profit Form 990s available. TMNY's employee identification number is 11-6047858. But they haven't filed a Form 990 since 2009 for some reason. Huh? In 2009, here are their stats: $31,500 in revenue (18K contributions, 2,400 in dues, 3,400 in program revenues, 7K other) $56,000 in expenses, including $19,600 in salary for Steve Ladin, Administrator. No one else, including the President, received any pay. $213,000 in assets, including $148,500 in investments. The absence of filings since 2009 is very odd, to say the least. It's even more questionable if income increased. And if income hasn't increased, then the whole place is definitely running on a very thin shoestring. |

I've been reading this silliness in total disgust, and once Mike Hanna ended up taking it in the ear for his singular years of dedication and hard work at HIS age, I became rather pissed at seeing this back and forth. To Evan, and everyone else whose hard work despite nearly insurmountable odds, I offer my kudos and hopefully will be able to get my own sorry ass down there soon to help out as well.Godspeed, TMNY! |

You seem to be missing the point.Look at the big picture. There isn't enough of a market for three museums. You'll be sapping volunteers away from other places. It would be better to consolidate collections with BERA and the NYTM, where there are more people willing to help. Stop isolating yourselves at TMNY. |

If so, show us your data. 2) Seeing as you may be a new individual to this forum (I myself have been here over ten years), have you read and seen any news regarding TMNY as of late? (And what I mean by news, I mean not something from, say, 2007 or from the misinformed opinions of other individuals) 3) Assume that you had control of this institution and that you were running the leadership role. If you feel strongly that the institution has no future, what can YOU do too actually stop the so called de-progress (if that's not a word, it is now)? 4) Do you have any past experience operating or maintaining transit equipment? If so, show us some proof--- I'm sorry---- proff ---- that you do so. Do you volunteer at other institutions? Are you a paying member of any? 5) Have you even set foot at TMNY at any point in time in the past? 6)Did you even read my post? |

Omar - return my decals. When you do, then AND ONLY THEN can you criticize my intentions.Omar Pagan's post is incorrect. McGinty maneuvered me out of the volunteering group. He was jealous of the fact that I received certain materials. Then a disgruntled member accused me of certain things. That was the so-called "credible information", the same guy who didn't like being forced to return the materials he took without permission, the same guy who wanted to bring "ten bitches" to the shower stall in the trolley barn. I ALWAYS had permission to possess those materials. They were returned when asked for. McGinty was jealous of me. The materials were always in safe hands with me. But McGrumpy was always unhappy with my being there from day one. He was never as friendly to me as he was to Carlos Hernandez, for example. That was because Carlos reminded his wife of one her sons. Some people you just don't get along with, and McGinty was one of them. He actually forced a board vote on the president's decision to give me certain items. The board did not terminate me, he did. The R-16 is not really being restored. Every time I was there, the side of the R-16 was open and constantly being re-welded. This happened every single time I went there. If a simple thing like that cannot be done except over a whole year, what do you expect for the rest of the collection? TMNY wants to give up the Low-V for a redbird. Garces was going to send me and Omar and some others to the MTA yards to scout out a selection. The rest of Pagan's contentions do not require a great deal of discussion. He posits bold plans, but no specifics as to how these aims will be realized. Nor does he specify any funding sources to support these bold plans. Even if you peer past his grammatical barbarities, you cannot discern any tangible or realistic plans for the miraculous turnaround he forecasts beyond references to some vague associations. Like: "The museum has also made alliances with a number of groups and individuals to help and support one another, including this museum.(sic)" Wait...the museum is making an alliance with itself? WTF? |

Also, it doesn't take an idiot to realize that there isn't a market for three museums in the Tri-State area. And no, I'm not saying my name.2) I have been following the news about TMNY for a long time, from the old pre-2013 news, to seeing the facebook post bitching about the poor state of the museum in 2013 that sparked the recent efforts to restore cars, to everything going on now. 3) If I had control of the institution, I'd do the right thing for the cars. Send the transit cars to the NYTM, and the trolleys to other museums that can take care of them without a herculean effort. 4) I have experience operating and maintaining transit equipment. PLENTY of it. More than you could ever imagine.... I'm not posting proff because that would give away who I am. 5) As stated above, I have. I was there quite recently. 6) Yes You never know who reads this forum, and who you are talking to. Tread VERY CAREFULLY. |

To our detractors out there-Known and Unknown:We will just have to work that much harder to prove you wrong. We have done a lot in a relatively short time with limited resources and limited manpower.Since Robert and his cohorts obviously have it all figured out,Exactly who would pay for such a move even IF the museum were to relocate.Obviously none of those who speak against us have no clue whatsoever! Is our buddy ren going to foot the bill on this? He can't even run two nickels together much less talk smack about moving an entire museum!Let's think about this for a moment:What sense would it make to move an entire museum when the NYTM hosts pretty much the same car types. If a move to Bush Terminal were to be a cure all for the supposed woes of the TMNY we would still be in the same predicament only with no trackage to call our own and no shop or storage space in which to store our collection. In short we are talking big bucks here of which some of you here obviously don't have.To be clear:The collection of subway cars will NOT ever return to the subway system-The NYTM does not want nor has any interest in what we do have for they have their own examples of the very same car types. No matter what some of you might think it will NOT happen. What would happen to the vintage Trolley's and the Whitcomb Diesel? Short answer:Most likely the junk pile. No,the TMNY and it's collection are not going anywhere. We are doing much better than most of you would believe and have made great strides over the last 15 months despite the negative comments made here. Our former buddy ren is mistaken on several fronts as the museum has a long term lease for it's property from the city of Kingston. There is much more than meets the eye concerning this museum and I am proud of our progress thus far.The museum has turned a corner in my opinion and is moving forward at a pace not seen in years! It is a shame that one person can stir up a hornet's nest spewing his version of events that transpired during his short time there but these are the facts: ren was dishonest about things and is looking for sympathy here.He got caught STEALING the keys to the museum; That along with some other misdeeds led to his removal from our volunteer group. We did not take this step lightly and put his fate before the entire group.Almost to a man they voted for his removal. He had no business having those keys in his possession as only the museum's board members are issued those keys.Ren states that the museum President issued him a set in order to lock up later, but he was not forthcoming with this information until certain keys were discovered missing later. When pressed about this matter ren was hesitant to reply that yes,he did indeed have the keys and would NOT return them until the museum President intervened to have the keys returned.Long story short, ren did eventually return the missing keys and he was removed as a volunteer a short time later. In short ren made us all look bad in the eyes of the museum as a whole and it was decided to terminate him as an active volunteer. It was him or us so he had to go since it was our group that brought him up there.Had he said Oops,my bad things might have gone a different way but what happened-Happened.Now ren did not want to go quietly, pestering the museum's president by phone and by e-mail asking to return. The answer was NO.Ren tried asking for his items that he DONATED to the museum be returned to which the answer was also no as they were considered a donation to the museum to begin with.Ren did threaten to expose our secrets and our supposed misdeeds and now here we are.So now that everything is out in the open for everyone to see I hope ren and his follower's are happy.I stand firm by my decision to remove him since it was clear that he could not be trusted. It was a democratic vote and it was a landslide! Now I don't like losing an active volunteer and ren DID contribute to the cause. His downfall was his odd ways combined with the key incident that led to his removal from the group. So he has his version of events, and I have mine. You dear reader can make your own decisions on these events as I have portrayed them.We are not going to allow this guy to stop what has now been started.... |

Some understandings need to be tossed in here for the benefit of those who don't understand the realities of Ulster county. Take it for what it's worth.Ulster county is a poor upstate county, and despite the presence of the museum there, there just isn't local money to support it. TMNY depends ENTIRELY on contributions and volunteers from outside the area. That it has managed to hold on as long as it has, as poorly as it has, is a testament to those few who have even bothered to keep it going. The museum has always had hard times there, and were it not for the dedication of a very small few, everything there would have been rust deposits on the ground decades ago. If anyone really appreciates, and cares about what's there, now is the time to get the collective ass in gear. For the first time in nearly forever, there's new blood, new dedication, and a genuine interest in making up for decades of losses. This is news! It should be fed, and fed well ... |

However, if you openly state you don't believe me, then that acts as some kind of validation to their false accusations.I went up there and PAID GOOD MONEY to help the cars. Risely GAVE me certain items. I never asked for them. In hindsight, I should have refused them. But that is hindsight. McGinty was looking for an excuse. He kicked out other volunteers earlier that spring when they were riding around on a wagon on the tracks. His son and Arjun Lal rode on that same cart, but he didn't terminate them out of favoritism. McGinty just didn't like me and he wanted a result oriented outcome. I would NEVER steal anything from a museum or misappropriate/embezzle things. That ain't who I am. |

I was up there recently and was intricately involved. I have taken more actions that involve museum cars this year than you have in your life. You could say I've been around the block a few times. Quit with the schoolyard antics. It burned plenty of museum car programs in the past. |

I am sure that the NYTM would be very interested in increasing the length of their Lo-V train to 5 cars and their R1-9 set to 9 cars (10 with R1 103) with TMNY's cars. There, they would carry far more people in a single trip than they would up at TMNY in a YEAR.I could give less of a shit about the childish BS that went on with ren. Stop bringing it up. |

I don't believe them either. Frankly, I don't believe either of you guys, and that doesn't matter. Both sides should drop their egos and talk about the fate of the cars. I have had experiences with McGinty before, not at TMNY. I won't go in to detail, but I don't speak with him regularly.. |

That Arjun is quite a character. You have shown (and I have seen it myself) that you do good work. Why is he still there and you not? Is there more to this story? |

That is exactly the type of childish behavior ren is accusing you of. If you wish to refute his argument, don't play in to it. You're just proving his point. |

Fuck what a circlejerk.Would the mofos at TMNY leave Ren & Stimpy alone? Forego the catering one weekend and cover it as a tax write off. I digress. Now, what's important is that bastard Caesar is running late with the brews. |
