Yes there is a lot of community focus in scripture. Worship *IS* a community prayer. It is good to worship with one and other.Correction is an issue apart. There is the "Teaching Church" and the "Pastoral Church" and they cannot be con-catted together. The Teaching Church teaches all aspects of the faith, including morals. The Pastoral Church accepts you where you are and brings you into the fellowship of the Church. Your sins are not the business of others. The business of others is to be forgiving and supportive, and to allow God to do judgment in his own good time and way. That is not the affair of the congregation unless someone is grossly out of line and a millstone around the neck of the community. That needs to be addressed: a couple living together is not the affair of the church. A house of prostitution is. Flaming Fagots are not generally welcome in a church, two men living together should raise no eyebrow. You do not have the right to assume anything about them. ROAR |

Otherwise, I could say that God ordered you to steal and kill and you would be obliged to do so. Why or how is he authorized to make these decisions is moot if he is indeed God, and if he is not God, that is if there is no God, then the Hell with it. Yes, but what are his qualifications? If you did, you would have noticed that there isn't any description of how a document can be manually copied thousands of times without error. It just blathers about the importance of accuracy and then says copyists were instructed to be very careful. So are you claiming thousands of copyists over thousands of years were all infallible? Or that someone told to be very careful will never make a mistake? That safety measures against failure will be 100% effective when followed, and that they'll be followed 100% of the time? |

Not a God who writes "commandments" into holy texts that become the scriptures of particular religions - clearly all those texts were written by human beings. But a God who is a metaphorical personification of the creative power of the universe, a power which gave rise to our existence. I do feel it can be a useful metaphor to personify that power as having a will or desires, even though I don't literally believe that there is a separate conscious being who literally created everything by an act of "His" will. The currently accepted version of the Hebrew scriptures, known as the Masoretic Text, became fixed about a thousand years ago, and yes, various copies of it have been compared with each other over the years enough times that we can be quite confident that the text used today is the same as the text codified by the Masoretes around the 11th century. That doesn't make it the infallible Word of God, but it does mean that it has been successfully preserved without alteration for about a thousand years. |

Where have I done any of those things? The problem is that most conservatives really don't understand what free speech actually means.
