We have a pretty good record of how the texts which became known as the Bible have changed over time; the changes between some of the Dead Sea Scrolls and current scriptures are quite minimal. The currently accepted version of the Hebrew scriptures, known as the Masoretic Text, became fixed about a thousand years ago, and yes, various copies of it have been compared with each other over the years enough times that we can be quite confident that the text used today is the same as the text codified by the Masoretes around the 11th century. That doesn't make it the infallible Word of God, but it does mean that it has been successfully preserved without alteration for about a thousand years. |
