Except that this sudden increase in motive power makes the potential electrification a very short term prospect. It's not like it really takes much to electrify a line these days, especially when the O&M stuff is already in place. At this point to complete the Montclair, M&E, and Boonton electrifications they'd just need two substations and around 50 miles of wire. The NJCL could probably get by with one new substation and 20 miles of new wire. Between the two projects you'd be talking less than 300 million dollars.But that doesn't answer my question, what do you think NJT will use these new ALP46s for if not for service on newly electrified lines? |
