Passenger service north of Dover Plains was discontinued by Penn Central in 1972.From what I read in a book about the Harlem line, they discontinued it the moment the ICC permitted it. That meant that the commuters who arrived in NYC from north of Dover Plains in the morning had no trains to take then back in the evening. I missed seeing the trains that went out there by a mere 6 years. I always wondered what exactly the workers were hiding when they wouldn't completely unroll the list of destinations just before departure. |
