|
Posted by William A. Padron on Mon Jan 4 17:14:12 2021, in response to Tuscarora Almanac for January 1, posted by IRTRedbirdR33 on Fri Jan 1 07:38:49 2021. This should have been mentioned also, thus should be inserted in the journal...Tuscarora Almanac – January 1, 1936 – The Book of First Runs Manhattan, New York New York City Board of Transportation Independent Subway System The IND opened its new Houston Street subway line in the borough of Manhattan on this date back, with new stations at Broadway-Lafayette Street, 2nd Avenue, Delancey Street and East Broadway. Based upon service posters as originally posted, the new route was scheduled to open at 12:00 noon on that date. "E" trains would operate into this new line, with the terminal points seen on the roll signs as being between "Queens-Roosevelt Av." and "East Broadway". They were able to run between the upper level at West 4th Street-Washington Square and the temporary terminal at East Broadway. The York Street station in Brooklyn, further down the line towards Jay Street-Borough Hall, would not open until April 9, 1936. -William A. Padron ["E BWAY"] P.S. Permission is granted in advance to have this placed in the journal for further reference. |
