Exactly!Looking at the 2015 book "Tracks of the Independent Subway 1937-1940" with all the track diagrams printed by the IND, "E" trains had be operated on the 8th Avenue local tracks between 42nd Street and West 4th Street (upper level), then would be able to switch downward into the Houston Street Line. Although the West 4th Street lower level platforms and trackway were built (for the planned 6th Avenue subway route), they were not in service. Surprisingly, the interlocking tower on the lower level was listed as 'temporary tower". -William A. Padron ["WEST 4"] |
