Posted by Widecab5 on Sat Dec 28 21:56:53 2019 I assume by now that this message was apprised that the last final revenue trip of the last MK R-42 train ran on the 5:15 Z on Friday, December 27, then was laid up from Jamaica Center to ENY Yard.Consist was (n) 4824/25-4831/30-4816/17-4799/98 (s). Only 4790/91 were left as a spare set at ENY. The first I received of official "Retirement" of the MK R-42 fleet was on the morning of December 21, effective the previous afternoon of December 20: 4792/93, 4800-03, 4808/09, 4812-15, 4820-23, 4826-29, 4836-39 (24). At that time there was still only two trains per day on J and Z as had been nominal since August, at the time only 2 8-car trains still in passenger service. Further notified on December 23 (the follow Monday) were retirement of: 4788/89, 4794-97, 4804-07, 4810/11, 4832-35 (16) for a total of 40/50. This included the second last 8-car passenger train consisting (not as make-up) being 4796/97, 4804-07, 4832/33. Effective after the last revenue trip on December 27, 2019 PM rush, the final 10 MK R-42s were "retired" as of Saturday morning, December 28. Two 8-car trains are detailed to Work Service at Coney Island (4794/95, 4802/03, 4808/09, 4838/39). Two 8-car trains are detailed to Work Service at 207 Street (4800/01, 4812/13, 4820/21, 4834/35). Four cars were laid up at Pitkin as of December 27 (4826-29). All others awaiting "fleet transfer" from ENY to elsewhere, guessing to 207 for processing for future scrapping to New Jersey. |
