The problem I found with mobile payments in the two cities I've used it, SF and Milan, is that the turnstiles at Muni and ATM Metro don't accept it, and you still have to go through the turnstiles. In Milan there were readers at one or two turnstiles in each station that could scan a code on your phone, but you needed to do that at both ends and the readers didn't work. I got stuck inside a station until somebody scanned me out. In SF I never even tried since I wasn't going anywhere I needed to use the underground part. I stuck with the F Market line and buses. I think you needed to show an agent? I don't know because I didn't try.But it is very convenient otherwise since you don't need to find a vendor and they are self validated. It also really speeds up boarding a bus if you don't have to line up and dip your card. I've always thought that NYC did that completely wrong with metrocard. It should have been a swipe like at a turnstile, not a dip. Everybody (except the tourists of course) learned how to swipe, not everybody rides buses enough to dip surprisingly, myself included. |
