Feature phones are subsidized for low income people now. This replaces the preëxisting subsidies for landline phones. But a cell phone makes more sense than a landline. Just as 30 years ago it was considered ridiculous not to have a home phone, now it is ridiculous not to have a mobile phone.At this point, the only reason they make feature phones is for the elderly and for burner phones. It would make sense to subsidize a very basic smart phone with limited data as part of the lifeline program. |
