Why, then would an openly gay person want to join the military before DADT was repealed?It's about being accepted as full members of society. By excluding gays, the Scouts are sending a clear message that gays are "less than", "wrong" and "unacceptable" to them. That's quite a harsh lesson for a gay teen to learn at such a young age. |

If it's a non-issue, why ban gays in the first place? Banning someone for who they are is wrong, no matter how you slice it. Just because a person is gay, doesn't mean they will behave in a sexual manner while participating in Scout activities, any more than a straight Scout would.All this ban really does is separate out, and ostracize gays based on the fact of their orientation. |
