The RAV4 is a car with a raised platform and has four wheel drive as an option. If I had to choose between the xB and the RAV4 to take back to Haiti, I'd much rather trust the RAV4. I know if can't do the kinds of off-roading that a 4Runner or Land Cruiser can do, but at least it has the clearance to go on gravel and some dirt roads. |

Judging from the pics that I saw of the new FJ40, it's aiming for the Honda Element market and the rugged-off roading masculine SUV.Honda never really aimed the Element at the off-roader market. It figured that typical buyer would be a trendy, educated young person in his or her early to middle 20's, who was looking for a funky-looking but reasonably inexpensive vehicle with plenty of room to haul all things like recreational equipment, furniture (from IKEA, of course), and other gear. As things turned out the Element is not particularly popular among the Gen-Y market, but is a big hit among, of all people, seniors. The Element's wide doors and just-right seating height makes it very easy for people with limited mobility to get in and out of the vehicle. It's also possible that Honda overestimated the ability of its target market to buy new cars. After all, it's not easy making car payments every month on a Starbucks barista salary. Especially when you're also paying off student loans from your $30K/year liberal arts education, that very same education which qualified you for a career making decaf skim lattes. It'll then have six SUV's in the U.S. market, excluding Scion and Lexus but including the rarely seen Land Cruiser. The new model, the FJ40, will be a rugged vehicle designed for heavy off-road use, an obvious competitor for the Jeep Wrangler. It's supposed to start around $25K, though given way Toyota dealers love to price-gouge it'll surely cost you a lot more to snag one.Oh yes, I totally forgot about the FJ40. I think it'll sell well simply because of it's odd styling. |

It blew a gasket. It was replaced by a Dodge Grand Caravan - which has since been replaced (due to high mileage) with a Toyota minivan. |

My 2008 Toyota Highlander has been recalled twice already, and it was not even part of the unintended acceleration recall of last year.Japanese cars are not as well-built as they used to be. Hate to say it, but I attribute it to inferior American labor. I had an '87 Nissan Stanza that was built in Japan. It was solid as a bank vault. I later had a '94 Nissan Altima built in Tennessee. Every time you shut the driver's side door with any kind of force, the whole car shimmied. |
