In NYC they are like $12 for the non cheap brands, and about 10 outside NYC. NYC has some of the highest taxes on cigarettes. The legislators thought they were going to find a windfall by raising the tax $2 one year, and then $2 a second year, for a total of $4 in two years. It backfired, as their revenues were almost flat after the last increase. |
