They may very well be gay - or they may not. There's a "reason" they have no shirt on, they are selling a calendar in which they are scantly dressed. And in the parade, they aren't even dressed like they are in the calendar. If they dressed like they were in the calendar, it would look more like your typical marcher in a gay parade. And it has nothing to do with "being gay". If they were gay, and promoting a calendar (which they may or may not be) there would be a reason to be walking around like that. There's no reason to be walking around in "beach wear" on 5th Ave for the gay parade either. And most of it is less than beach wear. 1. But if they can have them, people are allowed to notice and mention that the majuority of the participants are dressed like that. How come gays are allowed (in your book) to display themselves like that, but no one is allowed to comment on it, and then all of a sudden that's wrong. The double standard is with YOU saying that gays can do whatever they want, but no one is allowed to question it, and if they do, they are being "hateful". I haven't said one hateful thing here, an observation, criticism, or mention of something, doesn't mean I don't think they should do what they want. |

Keep in mind that the Mermaid parade does not pretend to be cultural or ethnic. It hails the beginning of summer at a beach and encourages participants to wear as little as possible. The organizers also host Burlesque and Pin-Up contests. It really is not a parade for kids yet lots of parents bring their kids and even parade with their kids. |

But who is saying they shouldn't have the parade? Some is not allowed to say that they don't care for the parade because most of the participants are half naked? Why is it not allowd to say that someone wouldn't want to bring their kids to the event?Why is it okay for the gays to do whatever they want, but it's not okay for other people to say what they think about it? Shouldn't the "14th Amendment" protect either side? |

It's a beach themed parade, so obviously people should be dressed in the "theme" of the parade....which is at the beach on Surf Ave! It's completely appropriate, as that's what the parade is about. (Forgetting that half the participants are men dressed in drag, gays dressed with little, or transexual people showing off their "assets" they took hormones to make. |

And even there, the sexual aspect is grossly exaggerated. Most of it is floats and fully-clothed marchers. The past two years I have been there, I have seen some cross-dressing, but only a handful of marchers buck-naked (I have pics, but can't post them on Photobucket.) |
