Rhode Island smokes the most yet is the smallest state? Hmm, it probably smells like a huge ashtray over there. And I thought that was just the fire and brimstone pouring out of the governor's mouth at an anti-gay marriage rally. Actually, I think the list is top and bottom ten most improved since 1990 (and is based on per capita prevalence of smoking). Rhode Island ranked 48th (with 1 being the best) in 1990, when 34% of the population over age 18 smoked; in 2009, Rhode Island ranks 16th with 17.3% of the population smoking. The most smokers per capita are in West Virginia. |

Some readings are 121-122/85.So the systolic came right down. The diastolic is harder to manipulate. I'm going to stick to this plan for 12 weeks, to see what happens. |

I eat Trader Joe's O's, with Trader Joe's 2% milk, almonds, and raisins. For lunch, it's skim mozzarella on whole grain bread to make a grilled cheese sandwich, with a side salad.Dinner is 2 servings of pasta with grilled peppers. Or something like that. Anyone can afford this. You should go to Trader Joe's on Woodhaven and Metropolitan. The prices are great, and it's no more than 2 miles from your home. Walking costs nothing. The Florida lifestyle fucking sucks for me. |

I actually gained weight eating at Whole Foods. The organic apples and potatoes are good for you. So is the quinoa. But Trader Joe's is a very blue collar healthy eating option. Believe it or not, eating the same thing daily, will help you lose weight. That's why bodybuilders do it. Once you find the right calorie count, the weight comes off. How about my peanut butter and lettuce sandwiches? I love them. And walking daily is free. In one walk, I went from Metropolitan and Park Lane to Jamaica Ave and 88th Street(site of St Thomas of the Apostle, which hosted several WWF shows in the 80's). Another walk started at Grand Central and 64th to World Gym on Woodhaven Blvd, and back. That's about 4 miles. |

We had 90 temps until Halloween. We were setting records for weeks. It's cold in the north, and I'm loving it.And then you have the fucking white trash scum. They don't keep their dogs on a leash. It even gets hot enough to not want to walk here. I'd much rather walk in weather that is between 50-60. Really 60 might even be to warm. 50 is perfect for walking for me. I pay $1.99 for a large 15.oz box of oat cereal. That's the family size. The organic milk is about $2.50.Also keep in mind that frozen fruits and veggies are cheaper and more nutritious. But you're right in the end. Feeding a family of four may make someone bypass healthy foods that are kind of pricey, like almonds, and pre-washed baby greens. |

I think that much of the unhealthiness of food is from the preparation. Too much fat is used. People fry too much. Change that and it's a big improvement. This message hasn't gotten though to many poor people, but I can understand. If you don't have much, you at least want to eat something that tastes good! |

So is lack of exercise. These daily walks are making a difference. But people mock me for doing them, saying that I should grow up, and that exercise is for vain people who just want to look good.I think my peanut butter and lettuce sandwiches taste good. But certain foods, like potatoes, absorb much more chemicals than others. And apple growers use more pesticide than most other fruit growers. Honestly, the only thing I hate about the work organic is the price. I just noticed that the bag of spinach I'm eating from costs just $2 b/c it's not organic. Most of the fruits and veggies aren't organic, and are much cheaper and fresher than your local supermarket b/c the people who go there go for that kind of stuff. Yeah, eating really healthy does cost more, but eating quite healthy doesn't have to, or at least not break the bank.Fresh produce is healthier than say, canned produce but other than what's been sprayed on, an "organically" grown carrot will yield same nutrition as one that's mass grown. Fresh produce is costlier though, so many opt for canned. Frozen is a good middle ground, not as pricey as fresh and more nutritious than canned, with the bonus of longer household shelf life. A lot of it comes down to healthier choices. Preparing meals from scratch is healthier than buying pre-fab, processed food. A jar of peanut butter is healthier than a jar of oh, I dunno, Cheez Whiz, let's say. Then again, some people are happy with the pickle and lettuce on their Big Mac as their vegetable servings for the day :D your pal, Fred |

I buy canned tomatoes, which are better than store-bought fresh because they were picked when ripe for canning. Of course, homegrown tomatoes are still best because they ripen on the vine. Plus, tomato's nutrition reportedly improves with cooking. I can't get enough of them. I'm drinking Clamato as we speak.your pal, Fred |
