Yes, it is a privately owned airport. Owned by one family from 1907 until 1985, then sold to another family which has owned it since. Your healthcare may not give me health benefits, but with the right rearranging of funds it might lead to the FAA paying for that nice ASOS unit the owners have been thinking about.

then get your congressman or state legislator to change the law. Don't ask unelected judges to do it for them.

So you were informing us of their stock holdings because you're proud of their efforts as informed capitalists?

How exactly can it be conflict of interest when they're arguing for the thing they're holding and they're under no compunction as public servants to divest themselves before taking office? It's not like Al Gore is any danger of entering public office anytime in the near future, so your victimization fantasy of being forced to purchase carbon accounting software stands about as much chance of coming true as my being forced to pay Halliburton 100 dollars every year for six years. No wait, the second one happened. Man, I am so bad at coming up with examples that don't result in you looking like the world's biggest hypocrite. Sorry about that.

That's how it should be and just like yourself, I also don't begrudge somebody voting based on self-interest but today's GOP base is a bunch of gullible and mindless Rushbots who vote against their own economic interests.
They harbor an underlying racial animosity that makes them fall for it every time.

Transit workers are now paying about $1,000 a year for healthcare. But most TA workers take the job for the bi-weekly paycheck, job security, promotional opportunities, or because they like trains.

TA healthcare is FORCED healthcare. No option of not participating in the plan for your money back.

If TA didn't offer healthcare, I still would've taken the job.

You're so right. And the liberals are always complaining about the makeup of jobs like cop and fireman, while saying little about jobs in fields like education(where you find lots of libs).

Every time the NYPD or FDNY test comes out, they're the most well-promoted civil service exams in NYC. Ads in Amsterdam News, el Diario, billboards in minority neighborhoods, Daily News, posters, grassroots, etc..........

The City has done all it can do to recruit minorities for both cop and fireman. Now it's up to minorities if they want the job.

Irrelevant.

Even the most left wing people don't want any able people to be on welfare for their whole lives. I don't know anyone who is in favor of welfare for any reason other than:

- A temporary benefit while someone is having misfortune.

- A permanent benefit for someone who is truly permanently disabled.

The only issue with welfare is not on principle but where to draw the line: how long a temporary benefit is OK, and what constitutes permanently disabled.

Addressing the energy bill (C&T) this time:

The bill only squeaked through the House because of three Republicans in nuclear-plant heavy New Jersey (the state has four plants and relies on nuclear plant-produced electricity for more than half of its power needs). When it passes by such a slim margin, and there are Democrats in states where coal-mining is a critical part of the economy, you can expect a filibuster in the Senate.

One such example is Robert Byrd...another may be Max Baucus.

It's a strong feature within the people in their base that vote against their economic interests. I'm not including other conservatives like economic ans civil libertarians.

Good fiscal policy demands these tax increases on every group of Americans to balance the budget and keep the American Dollar, which is a fiat currency, sound and safe.

I agree. I think that the tax cut expirations for the wealthy of 2011 and the winding down of the Iraq War will take care of some of our midterm deficit problems. Over the long term I think that we need to remove caps on Social Security taxes and overhaul our tax loopholes and contracting practices. There also needs to be a long-term plan to increase wages and keep good-paying American jobs here at home to insure growth.

LOL! The GOP, like in 1964 after it was blasted out of the water, must re-group and let the Democrats make the inevitable mistakes they will make, and turn public opinion back to the GOP.Third party, anyone?

More likely a repeat of 1854, where a new Second Party will emerge.

I actually think that may happen. The GOP is becoming a rump of its former self, just as the Whigs did.

Transit workers are now paying about $1,000 a year for healthcare.

Which is about a fifth of what most of the employed world pays, and what I paid A MONTH on COBRA.

But most TA workers take the job for the bi-weekly paycheck, job security, promotional opportunities, or because they like trains.

Don't forget the early retirement and pensions.
