A diner and chain restaurant are two different categories. A diner is where the characters on Seinfeld always ate. Perkins is a national chain open 24 hours.I Queens about 1/2 the mom-and-pop diners close at night. |

Yup, once you get past about Brewster or so, the mustard begins. I often ate at the Burger King on 22 in Brewster, but I can't remember if they did the mustard or not.....but it's somewhere around that point it begins. Westchester, NYC, and Massau/Suffolk (and maybe some parts of Jersey and Conn are the only places where they DO NOT do the mustard... |

I have been to Denny's out of state, but yes, you are right, no Waffle House either (but I never even tried one of them).A good real diner is usually the best anyway, so you are right, it's no big loss. I remember a place in Vermont I used to go to...had the best breakfast and burgers. YOu know the type of place, the place "the locals" would go to, where on the counter service would be a whole line of farmer types with their butt cracks showing, lol.... Yeah, not used to eating out all that much at commercial joints, but had to attend a wake for one of my favorite bosses when I was with the state, so we ended up at a Ruby Tuesdays for sliders and salad and fortunately the menu warned there be mustard and pickles. I'm totally rogue though, I prefer HP sauce or something with honey in it instead of even the ketchup. And sadly, on a grilled dog, I've come to really prefer mustard, chili and diced onions. Looks like they DID take the Bronx outta the boy up in here. =) |

We've got one of those here in town and it can't be beat. Waffle House ain't all that bad down south (you won't find any north of Maryland) if you're into OMELETTES done right ... with grits of course. Love to make their skin crawl by laying LOTS of butter on the grits along with salt so they don't taste like wallpaper paste. Heh.But otherwise, ain't missing much THERE either! There was a place near Williamstown, VT where the local GAS STATION made the meanest egg mcmuffin with bacon and cheese I've EVER had for breakfast ... hit that place EVERY time I go through and the sun's coming up. :) |
