Generally, that's all I do except when at the biggie mall ... we've got some fabulous places out here, but you need to know where they are or you'll miss them entirely. Up in the suburb areas around Albany, just about every chain there is has a joint along those stretches. We avoid them like the plague. Since we have local farmers here, we know what real food tastes like and it's not at all like the bland crap the chains serve up. Ruby's (at least here) makes the effort to buy local and you can taste the difference as compared to their other places. But in the end, don't have any use for the chain joints. Overpriced, blah stuff.

John Revolting in Saturday Night Fever might have been exaggerating, but IMHO eating a wedge folded in half (OK, or sometimes flat), is the only way to go

It was two slices together. One on top of the other folded. I was so impressed by this, I used to eat two slices together when I was a kid.

Very true. When at a sit-down pizzeria in Italy with others, one must always ask if it offends anybody if you eat with your hands. At the point, everybody says no it doesn't offend and almost everybody starts eating the pizza with their hands except for the purists who will use the fork and knife.

As people on this site have mentioned, NY marches to the beat of a different drum.

Yes, NY'ers are very race-conscious. Yes, if the Shamrock Shakes are sold in NY, someone will approach McDonald's to be more inclusive for other holidays too.

Where were you during March? We were doing our Shake hunts. Selkirk, Easy, Panse, 5301 Fishbowl, myself and a few others participated.

McDonald's still refuses to say why they won't sell the Shake in NY Metro. Only say that they won't do it. Several newspapers and major blogs like Gothamist have asked for it, but I don't think NY would sell it to avoid. McDonald's did sell a similar item for a Shrek promotion in NY

They'd have to have a cocoa shake for the Puerto Rican Day Parade, rainbow for gay parade, etc...........

No, it does not apply only to New York, but it's more prevelant in NY than other places.

Look at baseball for exampele. Sure, all MLB teams have ethnic/heritage days, but I doubt many teams go as deep as the Mets. Heck, they must've left Italian Day off by mistake, because I know they always had it. Like I said, if you include one group, all others want to be included too. If Italian Day is canceled, that's a story.

Asian Night Monday, May 11
Greek Night Friday, May 29
Chinese-American Night Tuesday, July 7
Korean Night Friday, July 10

Yeah, watch out where the huskies go and don't you eat that yellow snow.

Poor Frank. Underappreciated during his lifetime. I would go to Mays in Jamaica after school to buy his albums (which were really weird for the '60's (brown shoes don't make it)). Then there was this small record store on 165th Street where I bought the Fugs and Pearls before Swine (NOT even close to main-stream groups). Those were the days: Tompkins Square Park, the Ukies on the neighboring streets, the activities I left 30 something years behind me, oh well: you can't go home again (and if you could, would you want to?).

Thank God for WLIR back in the early 70's ... signal came in for shit in lower manhattan where the FCC was, and nobody squealed. :)

Maybe they'll ban it in NYC before they're forced to come up with an equally awful "tropical shake." :)

LOL. It will be interesting to see if it's being sold up north. I begin the drive late tonight, at 2am. Plan is to drive straight through.

Well ... just watch out for those red boxes from NOAA along the coast ... I'm guessing you're a 95'er rather than a 77'er headed north ...

Probably almost 10 years ago.

I think that most of the McDonalds in LA close at 11 pm, but I could be wrong. If so, they are the exception as nearly all of the Jack-in-the-Boxes, Carl's, and Del Taco's are 24 hours. At least the ones near me are.
