No, it does not apply only to New York, but it's more prevelant in NY than other places.Look at baseball for exampele. Sure, all MLB teams have ethnic/heritage days, but I doubt many teams go as deep as the Mets. Heck, they must've left Italian Day off by mistake, because I know they always had it. Like I said, if you include one group, all others want to be included too.
