It doesn't seem too asinine to me (at least this one). This just seems like a business decision by the mayor or City Council not to go with styrofoam.

There are MUCH worse laws on the books.

If you want a really insane law, it is the one that bans people from placing flyers on cars. The problem is that the law forgot to designate who can issue the tickets (and even if the City had passed a good law covering that, it would have been superceded by the flawed state law).

As a result, the law cannot be enforced, and someone who gets a ticket from the NYPD or Sanitation police can get it thrown out on that technicality, either by the Environmental Control Board or on appeal, because police don't have the authority as it stands now to issue tickets (this is scheduled to be remedied later this month).

Actually I like that law!!! I hate people who make me do extra work and the people that put flyers on my car made me deal with disposing of the garbage. Finally, I just started driving around with the flyer, pretending I did not notice it till it flew off the windshield.

I would like to see a law banning all supermarket flyers, etc from being placed on private property. I really resent having to take the time to bend down to pick them up and then have to deal with recycling them.

I can't stand when I find crap in my windshield wipers, and I used to absolutely HATE it when I would trip over all the friggen flyers and supermarket flyers thrown all over the stoop, and then they have to deal with throwing them out or recycling them....
A law banning both windshield flyers and proerty flyers cuts down on litter. Those are not nanny laws either, those make sense.

No, they have gone too far with the seat belt laws and smoking laws. Those ARE nanny laws. Yes, they do protect YOU, but it's not up to the government to "protect us from ourselves".
Yes, I agree that smoking should not be readily done....but there's nothing wrong with seperate smoking areas....and which doesn't interfere with the non smoking ares (I don't smoke by the way). And if "waitresses" are the problem...jst hire smoking waiters/waitresses! There are PLENTY of them. Then they ban smoking even outside buildings....some places want to make it illegal outside on public streets! New Jersey wanted to make it illegal to smoke in your OWN PRIVATE CAR! THAT is a nanny law, and it's starts little by little like it did with banning it in bars, etc, it just keeps spreading like a disease...and takes away more and more of people's freedoms.

And as for seatbelt, yes, I always use mine, but the government shouldn't have the right to say I HAVE to use one... Some places want to make ADULTS were helmuts on bikes...it's just out of control!

Those are TOTALLY different than banning a substance that doesn't rot for hundreds of years.

Years ago, they were trying to ban smoking on colleges and beaches. Not because it was bad, it was because the smokers littered the place up.

No one even bothers on that angle anymore.

And for smoking in your car, that creates a decent number of brush fires believe it or not.

Except, 153,000,000 trays in the trash costs a lot of public money.

Now all of a sudden no one cares about costs or money. Maybe NYC is backwards.

Buy it, store it, ship it, trash it, ship the trash, landfill it. Landfills are getting harder to build in some parts. You guys who have to ship your trash far away pay a lot more.

Yes, I do understand that people throwing cigarettes out the window is a problem, but that comes in from a litter angle. People shouldn't be throwing anything out of their windwows period. Litter is a different problem, and should be addressed and enforced accordingly. Banning smoking because people litter becomes a nanny law, which is different from it being illegal to litter.

Here's what I did to a repeat offender (a local gas station): I walked up and down the block and picked up a number of them from other people's cars, just enough so that this would work. I then drove to the business being advertised, drove in, opened my window, and then threw them all upward so that they would spread out nicely onto the ground. I then left. Interestingly I don't think that business ever put those flyers out again.

No way, burgers cooked over wood fire are teh uber-pwnage, especially if the beef is freshly ground. The roll is key, too, like a good hard roll, toasted on the grill. I usually have 2 of them, the first one is just ketchup, raw onion slice and raw tomato slice. That's to enjoy the Zen of a simple burger. Then the second one is the slop burger, where the only limits are what's in the pantry and the imagination.

Wrong, wrong and wrong. The European Commission is a non-democratic entity. Japan's culture stresses their railroad hoggers out so much that even if they're a nanosecond late, they gotta go to re-education seminars where they're told how useless they are (which resulted in a fatal crash on the narrow-gauge some years back). Canada you're clueless about, but you still blow smoke like you know what you're talking about.

Do you just like cyberbeatings by Subchatters? Are you a cybermasochist?
