How many deadly incidents began with a phone call to 911?I don’t like comparing the US to other counties for almost anything. This is melting pot. This country is in a class all by itself and those comparisons are giving false impressions and misinformation. Bottom line is people shouldn’t behave like jerkoffs. That’ll save lives as much as anything else. |

You mean the way the police SAY they behave.Rear-cuffed suspects committing suicide by gunshot while seated in the back of an RMP? "Excited delirium", a condition that only seems to manifest itself in people who have just been arrested? (Yes, Taser International did give us their "trainjng" on how to handle patients who have been Tased. That was the very first time I ever heard the term "excited delirium", and guess what? That's still not a REMSCO protocol in NYC yet.) "Flailing" one's arms...why do people only seen to "flail" their arms when they're under arrest? It seems that the police in America have a lot of trouble taking (overwhelmingly Black) suspects into custody without killing them. What happened over the years? I had many a patient in police custody who fought us like a gored bull, but somehow we and the cops never actually killed anybody. My point is, the police know how to do this, even with suspects who are totally fucking dusted. So why have they apparently forgotten? |

We once had a patient who threw his mother off the 10th floor before hurling everything in the Emeril Lagasse kitchen cutlery set at us when ESU made the entry. One paring knife actually came sailing through the front door and bounced off the cinderblock wall. He was a huge sonofabitch and it took eight extra-value size cops to get him downstairs and onto our stretcher. He had somehow nicked a minor artery in the chaos, and blood was flying all over the place. The cops would have been fully within their rights to shoot him deader than Caesar, but by some miracle we managed to get his lacerations dressed and into the ER at Luke's.If the cops can handle that monster... |
