Like the way Michael Dowd was protected by the blue wall while running shotgun for a crack gang?

Law enforcement is an adult fraternity.

Cops are losing trust faster than ever. Their word means less with each interaction.

Shootings every Got-damn night. OD's. EDPs. Stabbings all over the place. You could get more experience in one year at Station 34, than you would get working in, say, Bayside in Queens. Oh, and people still had the usual heart attacks, strokes, illnesses, and MVAs, on top of everything else.

Those who say NYC is "returning to the bad old days" don't know or remember just how bad those days really were. Places like ENY and Brownsville are positively peaceful now, compared to what they used to be like. It was worth your life to take a diff breather out of Louis Pink, while gunshots were going off behind you on Stanley Avenue...or be sitting 89 somewhere on Pitkin Avenue when your patient came to you with his head bleeding all over everything...

I did too. Things died down over the years because of several factors:

1. All the hell-raisers died, went to jail, or aged out

2. Gentrification forced a lot of the earlier residents out, or they died off

3. Today's generation is buried in their phone (not sure that's an entirely good thing)...

Things got bad because of structural racism, which translates to intentional neglect of minority neighborhoods like ENY. This, in turn, opened up the Pandora's box of drugs, guns, and chaos that characterized the 1980s in ENY and other sections of the "inner city".

InB4 you say I "put race into everything". The reality is that race is a factor in almost all people activity in America, and has been since the 19th century.

police brutality is a horrific normality

What metric should one use to prove or disprove that assertion?

One measure should be the number of people killed by police. This graph shows the degree to which people are killed by police for several countries.

how/why police in other countries are not armed.

The "why" was stated in the linked article:

Richard Hill, history professor at Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand, explains that New Zealand police were disarmed for routine work in 1886, following the principle of the British police that: “Constables are placed in authority to protect, not to oppress, the public.” For officers to carry guns would not just be unnecessary, he says, “but also antithetical to the values of civil society.”

What's the rate of people killing police in the US versus other countries? That's something I see in the media a lot more than the rare civilian being killed.
And why won't you list what every "civilian" was doing when killed? Did they shoot at the cops?

And Mexico isn't on the list but Iceland is? LOL, that's biased right there.
