I know that here in downtown LA homeless people are such an issue that Starbucks has closed some restrooms to customers completely. I can’t imagine just letting them become homeless shelters where homeless can hang out all day. Nothing against “homelessness” but I’m definitely against the drug addiction that leads to so much of it. |

According to another CNN story the men asked to use the bathroom and were told the bathroom was only for customers. This is the employees’ side of the storystory Just as a point of reference, At the McDonald’s at 125th St. and Lexington Avenue you can’t use the bathroom unless you show the security guard a receipt that you bought something. |

For one thing, there is no guarantee that these two guys are totally correct. The employees say that they came in to use the bathroom and were told that bathrooms are for customers only. After that things escalated and the police were called. I don’t think they need to be arrested but the police said they told them to leave. People were saying that they didn’t do anything but they didn’t leave either. Maybe they were waiting for their friend and the employees are wrong. Also possible for sure.Let’s say that these guys came in and actually were waiting for their friend to show up and some employee had a hair up his ass and escalated up normal situation into way fracas. That’s asinine but in no way means it’s a systemic problem within Starbucks. Starbucks should do is grill everybody at that particular store and find out exactly what happened and then take action at that particular store. Third, 40% of Starbucks work force are people of color. You expect them to walk off the job? Hardly. I always give stories like this at least 24 hours to ferment. This one especially because it’s in Philadelphia LOL |

Then that police were called and the men were asked to leave and again refused.That doesn’t mean that the men weren’t profiled and perhaps there were many people hanging around that didn’t buy anything. But it’s a business not a parkb bench. They should be able to reserve their seats for paying customers. It’s a weird situation for a Starbucks though. |
