If you really didn't care about any religions, you wouldn't take the time to mock them.

Bullshit. This country is run by religious people who vote and govern according to their crazy beliefs. Science funding, science education, and science literacy is suffering nationwide because people think a magic sky man told them the world is 6,000 years old. One in three women will be raped because people believe God declared them chattel for men to use rather than people in their own right. Global warming threatens our continued survival and people are ignoring the warnings because they believe only a magic sky man can change the climate and he said he wouldn't. People are poisoned by environmental damage ignored and tolerated because idiots believe a magic sky man gave humans dominion over the Earth and will clean up their messes. Wars are fought and people are killed every day in the name of this magic sky man and his alleged dictates. And all across the world, people facing injustice of all sorts are lulled into apathy by the promise that everything will be made right as soon as they die.

Claiming: "If you really didn't care what I believed, you wouldn't complain that I'm poisoning you because of my beliefs" is disingenuous and absurd.

Well yes. The idea that "immoral act" is interchangeable with "annoying a god" is pernicious and damaging in a great many ways.

Fundamentally, religious people believe there's no such thing as morality— anything goes, might makes right, but God is the mightiest so his word is law.

Of course, God doesn't actually exist so this means in practice that the most powerful human's word is law— plenty of people spent plenty of centuries under absolute monarchs with "divine right" to rule from England to China, and even in ostensible democracies the remnants of autocracy linger in the form of power afforded by inherited wealth.

That's the problem. Judaism isn't defined by strict allegiance to arbitrary traditions. That's just a mental glitch— we're all hardwired to assume that the way our parents did things when we were kids is The Way Things Are Done and continue to do them lifelong.

Being Jewish is just who/what you are, and that won't change simply because you realise that bacon cheeseburgers are delicious. Why assume that you can say God doesn't exist and still be Jewish but you spontaneously lose your cultural background the minute you point out that a few rituals are annoying and silly?

... you answered Yom Kippur because your family has a special cheeseburger recipe that you prepare to eat that day...

Thus proving once again that you never actually understood anything I said.

I may have made some comments about that which I don't feel the need to repeat.

Judaism casts a wide net in terms of what is considered legitimate practice, but it doesn't cover everything. You fall outside those boundaries, and the fact you feel a need to come here and flaunt it is disrespectful and disgusting.

And now you have stated openly what you have always implied— you're not upset because I'm "mocking" or "disrespectful," you're upset because you believe that you are entitled to dictate every aspect of everyone's life and you hate the fact that I have my own beliefs and preferences.

Everyone on the planet must do everything the way WMATA does it— not exactly; some slight variation is allowed, but I fall outside that boundary and you believe that it's inherently "disrespectful" and "disgusting" that I don't celebrate holidays the way WMATA does or in a way similar enough that WMATA deems it acceptable.

You are a self-centered narcissistic pompous ass and you would be well advised to shut up until you're mature enough to respect other people's opinions and preferences.

fiogf49gjkf0d
It is extremely odd that you would "celebrate" a holiday that is devoted to atoning for your sins and fasting by declaring you have nothing to atone for.

On the contrary— it's not odd at all.

Religion invents the concept of "sin" to trap people into servitude, keeping them the downtrodden slaves of an imaginary god and the very real tyrants who claim to act in his name. Breaking free of religion means more than just being able to party on Saturdays without having to wait for the sun to set— it means being free to see and learn, to appreciate the universe, and to call out injustice because no one else will.

Taking a holiday religion invented as a day to debase yourself in the name of your imaginary owner and using it to celebrate freedom from that tyrant is hardly odd— using the vestiges of an oppressor to celebrate the end of that oppressor is common practice— just ask anyone who has reclaimed a former slur.

Furthermore, while your, erm, mental handicap on the subject of religion probably prevents you from seeing the big picture, there's more to it than that. Judaism may be relatively laid back on the whole notion of "sin" but Christianity abuses the concept with a vengeance— in Christianity, sin is a chain used to control people. God demands the impossible, your failure to deliver it is a "sin" and for this "sin" you must live your life in constant guilt, debasing yourself before the masters and kings and tyrants and popes who claim that God demands it. While I have never been Christian myself, I live in a country heavily influenced by Christianity and its toxic notion of sin, giving me a much greater reason to celebrate my freedom from the guilt trap of religion. A former Christian would probably celebrate Christian atonement holidays in this fashion, and I'd love to see an "It Is Now Lent" post from an ex-Christian. However, I'm Jewish and I've pretty much always been an atheist— the former means Yom Kippur is "my" cultural holiday and the latter means all religions seem pretty much interchangeable anyway so there's no reason not to swap one for another.

As such, I use Yom Kippur to celebrate my freedom from the trap of religion in general and as a stand-in for Lent to celebrate my freedom from the trap of Christianity that most of my country is stuck in.

If you can't understand why that pisses people off, you have a lot to learn.

I understand exactly why it pisses people off and have stated as much explicitly. Unfortunately, you have a lot to learn if you want to understand it— thus far, you couldn't even read that post before your religion considered it a threat and shut down your mind to prevent you from understanding it. Unaware that this had even happened, you simply assumed that if you didn't believe what I said, it must have been because you were offended and so you commenced another tantrum to shriek about how offensive it was that I don't do everything you do exactly the way you think it should be done.

As they say, "I can't define it, but I know what it is when I see it." For example, mocking someone else's peace-loving socially-responsible mankind-bettering baby-seal-protecting religion is a SIN.

So DAMN YOU. DAMN YOU STRAIGHT TO HELL.

You cannot claim to be Jewish if you are not following the holiest day of the Judaism calendar.

Sure you can.

I don't need to prove it. You made the claim about what you think someone said. It's up to you to prove it at fact. Never mind that you CAN'T, as it's only an opinion and thus it can't become fact if you're claiming a meaning other than the literal meaning. And even if you were trying to "prove" he meant the literal meaning, you can't do that either since he may have meant some other meaning. So I'm right and you're wrong. He and I and et. al. didn't say what you claim we said. We said what WE claim we said. You don't seem to understand this.

No, not me, moron. If you were actually Jewish AND you knew anything about Judaism, you'd know that that's NOT how it works.
