The idea that "immoral act" is interchangeable with "annoying a god" is pernicious and damaging in a great many ways.Fundamentally, religious people believe there's no such thing as morality— anything goes, might makes right, but God is the mightiest so his word is law. Of course, God doesn't actually exist so this means in practice that the most powerful human's word is law— plenty of people spent plenty of centuries under absolute monarchs with "divine right" to rule from England to China, and even in ostensible democracies the remnants of autocracy linger in the form of power afforded by inherited wealth. |
