In other words:

1) Our fans are far more apprehensive about going to Brooklyn than Manhattan.

OR

2) If our fans have to pay LIRR fares to Zone 1, they'd rather see the Rangers.

Bettman said at an Associated Press Sports Editors meeting that the league was helping the Islanders explore their options “in the metropolitan area” and that moving the team to outside New York was not currently being considered.

Which leaves the question of where a stadium would go, and who'd be dumb enough to subsidize the Islanders.
