It is part of the real issues. There are no sacred cows except Paratransit when it comes to cuts. You can't cut Paratransit, you can only make it work better.

Express buses across the city have to be scheduled for a 85-90% load factor on 75% of the buses. Otherwise, there is no need to justify the extra expense of an MCI. The whole purpose was to consolidate runs to reduce the losses.

Subways can no longer be overscheduled. This will mean cuts for sure. Certain express stations will have to be skipped during rush hour for safety reasons. People need to learn that most locals aren't that slow.

Local buses may have to become more infrequent. It is better to have less service when the alternative is losing everything. I do not think that people understand how close we are to losing EVERYTHING. If you do not do rehabs on your capital infrastructure, there will come a point where it will all fall down at ONCE. We need to start making cuts and fix the aging tunnels and elevated structures now while we still have time to shut off parts of one subway line and divert people. If you leave things too long, you'll have to shut down multiple subway lines at once and that would be bad. The BMT Broadway el is almost 100 years old. The Jerome el is in its 70s and the White Plains el is almost that old as well. Forget about the IRT Broadway (1) el. They all need to be replaced very very soon and it will take at least five years for each one.

I didn't live in the 1970s and I have no interest in going back to bell bottoms, broken buses, and track fires. No thanks.
