On the Brown, Red, and Blue lines there are eight car trainsets that are only used for weekday rush hour. Theoretically, the no seat cars would be entrained in these consists as "belly cars." This is what is done with cars that have BO cab signals.But if the seats are removed permanently, those cars would always be out of service in off-peak hours, greatly reducing the number spares available for service during those times. Unless they plan on using surplus 22/2400s that would otherwise be junked, jump seats are a better idea. |

Five JR lines around Tokyo have either one or two of these in their consists. They enter in service with the seats up and locked. Once the morning rush is over, there will be an announcement that the seats will be unlocked. Once someone flip the seat down, they become locked again and stay in the down position for the rest of the day.  Also these cars have six sets of doors per side. |
