They don't need all the cars off-peak and weekends. If they are willing to do some switching in the yards, then they can take off the seatless cars for those time periods, and replace them with seated cars. If they don't want to do switching, then maybe they could leave the seatless cars in the train sets, but run shorter headways to make up for the lost seats.Thi is exactly what CTA was doing with 2200s on the Blue Line before extra cars were required when Pink Line service started. The only caveat is if there aren't enough spare seated cars to allow seated cars to be rotated in and out of the shop. |
