On the Brown, Red, and Blue lines there are eight car trainsets that are only used for weekday rush hour. Theoretically, the no seat cars would be entrained in these consists as "belly cars." This is what is done with cars that have BO cab signals.But if the seats are removed permanently, those cars would always be out of service in off-peak hours, greatly reducing the number spares available for service during those times. Unless they plan on using surplus 22/2400s that would otherwise be junked, jump seats are a better idea. |
