Boy ... looks like even back then, with nazi spies afoot, towers and interlocking machines were top secret. :(But I DID find these which are contract drawings for the work and given where the spur came out of, any special interlocking for the event on a temporary basis in addition to the yard work might not really have been all that much after all. It was apparently a sub-board at the Jamaica yard tower ... Here's the interlocking work:  Wish it actually showed switches and lever numbers, but that's all there appears to be (indicator changes) And this would have been what fed the lights for the model board:  So my guess is that they definitely had to add a model board, but if they had enough levers already reserved on the Jamaica yard machine, the few things they needed to add to the control might have been available on the existing machine ... |

A reasonable person would have said: "NYCSubway.org has the drawings and I've displayed them here..." instead of making it seem like his amazing sleuthing abilities led him to the dark recesses of the internets where, against all odds, he magically found these drawings on some unknown website. It wasn't even until his second post that he identified this mysterious website as nycsubway.org. I do give him props for actually providing credit and an HTML link in that second post. But he didn't "find" nothing. The webmaster of nycsubway.org simply has it in his website's massive and comprehensive collection. I know it's a relatively small nit to pick. It just read like he was trying to give himself a lot more credit than he deserved. |

I surf around the 1939-40 worlds fair movies (many in color) on Youtube to see if there's any footage of the WF RR.I saw a tiny enticing bit once - amateur movie in the amusement area, people are getting on one of those tower rides (not the parachute jump), where you're taken up high in an open compartment, and the camera pans around the far. On this one, in color, the camera pans north, over the rest of the Fair, then pans east - you can see the cemetary, and for a few seconds it pans across the entire IND terminal - almost too fast to capture it by clicking the mouse to stop. Then the camera continues panning east going south, and for a few more precious seconds, captures an IND train, proceeding north towards the terminal. Even so, amazing.... like you've traveled back some 70 years. I was at a library computer so could not bookmark it, and didn't have time to email myself, info about the clip Many of these '39-'40 WF clips (or compilations of clips) are too long to watch at one sitting 20 mins + to about 1 hour +. That's a lot of Fair footage to sit through while you wait to see if there's any of the WF RR. |
