Yes I know that. But when the Main line is shut down between Hicksville and Jamaica, they won't have to use diesels to get to the Ronkonkoma Branch. It would add some flexibility when there is a major diversion like when they were replacing the Roslyn Rd crossing in Mineola recently. The diesel equipment could be better used elsewhere.

Deer Park may have shifted too, as it's one of the last "affodable" yet good and stable working class neighborhoods that far west.

Nassau County Bias: There's always that bland central area of Nassau County East Meadow/Levittown/Hicksville/Salisbury where you're not near an LIRR station, and the closest stations have "No You" parking...

It wouldn't be needed, but it certainly is a lot more efficient than third rail. When the LIRR began electrifying east of Mineola, they should have been forward looking and looking to catenary for those expansions. In the long run it would have been cheaper and easier. In the interum, they could have ordered "New Haven Branch" like M3's that could operate on both catenary and third rail. They would have saved in the long run on the cost of electrification (all those substations wouldn't have been necessary), and they would have been able to expand much further and easier. They also would have saved money on the disasterous FL9 experiment, as well as the, at best, lemon DM30 purchase.

Riverhead is where the population is and a long of blue-collar folk that want to save money on gas would take the railroad there.

Where would these "blue collar folk" be traveling to by train?

It should have been built with an island platform for instant transfers.

Which complicates the piecemeal electrification approach. Not only do you add the headache of dealing with electrifying the line, you also need to re-align the line and the station for an island platform at each new electric service terminal.

BTW, if anything, the LIRR should really contemplate advancing some of the third track work around Mineola to build an island platform to allow for Oyster Bay shuttles in lieu of running to Jamaica off-peak.

I always thought "Southeast" was constructed only as a place to act as a transfer point for diesels and electrics, like MSU on the Montclair-Boonton line. There's not much around Southeast, it's a glorified P&R.

It's also more convenient for traffic coming off I-84 than driving thru downtown Brewster.

Ilegal immigrants have trouble finding jobs AND are coming under increased scrutiny.

The bad part of that is when illegal immigrants work, they are willing to feed information to local police about bad actors, that is, the minority of illegal immigrants who commit robbery, burglary, extortion, arson, vandalism. Then the police get them off the street, and after they do time, ICE deports them. Kansas City has had a lot of success doing that and NYPD knows all about it as well.

But if local police are busy acting as immigration officers, that cooperation goes away.

I've seen and heard prejudice about blacks living in ghettos from middle class WASPS and Jews living in places like Mt. Sinai.

That same one family sample you mentioned in the Port Jefferson electrification subtrhead I see. A great scientific sample of a very large county.

Yup. That is the problem.

I don't think so either. Maybe Bob Andersen can confirm this.

Mastic Shirley is NOT an "African American" community. You apparently know about as little about Suffolk as Ron does. And Coram Hill, Gordon Heights, etc are much closer to "Mt Sinai" is even if Mastic/Shirley was an "African American" commnunity.
Shirley is 90% White, and 3% Black.
Mastic Beach is 88% White and 5% Black. Mastic is about 50% White and about 30% Hispanic, which doesn't even have a presence in Mastic Beach and Shirley.

Well, the few times that I've been to the Mastic-Shirley area I mostly saw Black people so I'm basing what I said on that. Maybe the "Whites" and "Hispanics" don't leave their houses lol.
