Exacly what I have been saying all along. I am beyond blaming the individual officers now. The City of New York, MTA, MOFTB, and the NYPD all need to be hit with major class action lawsuits - money is the only punishment they will understand!!! As many photographers as are being harassed on the subway an equal number or more are being harassed on the streets of New York. |

I thinkk i know the feeling, maybe you are shy about it, but just act normal in that situation, and just casually take photos. It can be hard, but you just have to do it, and you will see it is no big deal. |

Get the camera, and DELIBERATELY take a real, and GOOD photo. You have absolutely nothing to fear. Don't be afraid of someone seeing you do something legal. Think about it, who is mor suspicious? A guy with a camera, or a guy who quickly snaps a shot with his camera pretending to be on the phone. Just take the photo, pretend you are the only one on the subway, and it is just you and the train. Nobody cares if you take a photo, if an idiot gives you trouble, you give him trouble, and tell him he is misinformed.I once read that nilet got his memory stick taken away or something, how he didn't deck those cops, i don't know, would i deck them, i don't know, but it wouldn't stop me from taking photos. guy...BE GUY, be SOLID, and good. Be positive. Are you affraid to stick out or something? I can sort of relate, i don't like sticking out in a flashy way by wearing flashy clothes, but guy, take the photos normally. |

Error, read the book by George Orwell 1984, he predicted all of this nonsense, and the sad thing is that in some ways, it is worse than what Stalin was doing. Least he pushed for construction of transit systems, schools, science, and even the arts, while in america, we were dismantling our great systems, and our educational system has been margianalized, like transit, and healthcare. But we have highways and ipods now, big deal. This state of fear is a shame. If you read 1984, you will see some striing similarities with our current situation. I won't let Big Brother win. |

You cannot deck a cop under any circumstance.OTOH he is not permitted to touch you or your property without first arresting you. Tampering with the drives would be destroying evidence. You might want to point that out to him, but he may belt you in the head with his nightstick. Of course then you could sue the city for a Million Dollars. ROARING |

No. How would it be way easier if it involves doing something that could catch the attention of the police or the public or MTA employees and blow your whole plot? And I don't see why you need photos to decide where to put your bomb. You just go to the station, check it out, and make your decision! |

Posted by BMTLines on Wed May 14 07:47:35 2008, in response to Re: Police Officer Misinformed, posted by Terrapin Station on Wed May 14 00:58:26 2008. Its not that all cops will hassle you - I took some shots while cops were around and not a word was said (perhaps they were too busy staring at the model) - but the problem is so pervasive above the street as well as below the street. The NYPD is fully aware of the situation and the complaints yet they outright refuse to do anything to rein in the rogue cops. In spite of being put on notice by the NYCLU - NYPD has stated outright that they refuse to issue memos or training guidelines to officers regarding photographer's rights. That is what the pending lawsuit is trying to force them to do. Therefore it can be said that unofficially the NYPD is either tolerating or condoning the actions of those overly zealous cops. It is more an act of omission rather than of commission on the part of the brass. The Mayor's Office of City of NY is also on notice - in the MOFTB public hearing on the proposed photo restrictions groups like PictureNY as well as the NYCLU and others repeatedly mentioned police harassment as a pervasive problem. |
