MTA's policy is to rent each square millimeter for the highest price possible. I too think that some of it should be let at lower rates to lower cost vendors, but a) it won't happen and b) think of the shenannigans that would ensue around who gets the lower cost space. On the balance, I'm OK with GCT not having value-for-$$ food vendors, now that I think about the complications. Would be nice, but its not essential. You want low value, you brown bag it or look down the block and see if there's still a hole-in-wall type bodega. I think there's still Dunkin Donuts on the block, their $1.49 mini-wrap isn't bad. Same thing is 99c outside New York. |

Just my opinion of course, but I believe that organized crime is the force that doesn’t want to see drugs legalized. Back when alcohol was prohibited, the mob made its money off illegal booze sales. When alcohol was legalized, the mob needed a source of illegal money and so turned to drugs. If addictive drugs were legalized, those dependent on the would be able to go to specific locations to purchase them consequently drying up organized crime’s source of income and in effect putting most “families” out of business. |

One of the differences I notice between Penn and GCT is that the last time I went to Penn, there were many franchised food distributers like KFC and I believe either Mc Donalds or Burger King where as I didn’t see any of those in GCT. |

Well, I'm not rich nor elite in any way but my days of looking forward to a bite of McBurgerWing stuff ended before my teens were over. They do deliver an amazing amount of stuff per $$ (and KFC isn't actually bad), but if those are the options I can wait till real food. Being old-ish has changed my stomach and outlook. The last time I was in Penn St (several years back) it was so gross that I see no call to sell or eat actual food there. Friend grease fits Penn, plus it gives the rats something to fatten up on. |

OC has enough money and embedded tentacles that it won't go away until a) the morality of the population changes and b) the public meets crime with superior force. They can pervert ordinary business, in a big city that can be as profitable as drugs. |

"Back when alcohol was prohibited, the mob made its money off illegal booze sales."Back in the pre prohibition days, the mob donated serious $$$ to temporance groups to help finance their cause. History dictates that it was mob money (for the mob) well spent. Nowadays, there probably salavating at the possibility, however how remote it seems now, that cigarettes will be outlawed. |

Speaking of blathers, how about some proff or are you pulling that figure out of your ash tray? His logic is simple: - Eric Garner sold untaxed loosies for a living. - Three quarters of New Yorkers are Democrats, illegals, or other degenerate types who have the same respect for the law as Eric Garner had. - Therefore three quarters of all cigarettes sold in NYC are sold illegally. |

The point of my post was either totally missed or maybe I didn't articulate it well. That said, I was referring to a 1920's federal level style "prohibition" on the production, distrubution & sale of cigarettes in the United States. Enter the mob with its predictable attempts to smuggle cigarettes from abroad, like whats done with harder drugs.. This was NOT about the sale of untaxed (or loosies) cigarettes that were legally manufactured in the USA and/or smuggled from other parts of the country. What happened to Eric Garner, as horrible as it was, has nothing to do with the point I was trying to make. |

HE WAS NOT MURDERED. He died while being taken into custody. Pre-existing Cardiac, Respiratory issue.PROFF: He was shouting "I CANNOT BREATHE" Ergo he WAS breathing, or he would not be able to shout. Once you start resisting officers, they are going to keep fighting you as long as you are resisting. If he wanted to live, all he had to do was to stop resisting (which would relive the cardio-pulmonary demands at once and he could then have asked the officers for oxygen and an ambulance. But if you panic and fight, and you will always fight for oxygen, then you may succumb to the situation even if the officers do not have hold on you. |
