I see at least five. Google “City of London” and every image in image search of the skyline.

OK, 5.

Nevertheless, in the center of London there are very few tall buildings. Most are on the eastern side toward Canary Wharf if not quite that far. The City of London itself was until 40 years ago or so quite far east in terms of commercial London.

Similarly, in Paris, La Defense is all the way over on the western edge.

In NYC, once midtown was established, the main centers of commerce did not move.

How so? There's stations as deep as that is high, access can be via elevator like the two stops on the 1 or Forest Glen on WMATA...

I wasn't. That's why I doubted the stations would be built. The other station, BTW, was Randalls Island.

If I had to choose, I would prefer MNRR, because as planned, Triboro RX will be sharing quite a lot with Amtrak's Northeast Corridor. The other line which does this a lot is the New Haven line, so it makes sense to model the infrastructure (signals, power distribution, etc.) after the New Haven line.

Almost none of these are in the City of London.

Scroll down to the list. It can be sorted by clicking on the first row (above showing the column headings). Sort first by date and then by location.

You will see that location differentiates between various sections of London from Battersea to Westminster and White City. Included therein is "City of London". There are 16 entries, starting with St. Paul's in 1710.

The next entry is City Point in 1967. It's listed as being in "The City". The entry before St. Paul's is the BT Tower, which was known as the Post Office Tower, during my London visits. You will note its location is given as "Borough of Camden". It was built in 1964, before City Point.

At least since 1967.

You will note my reference. I did not include the Post Office Tower because it wasn't in "The City".

Ah, thank you. But even though in the City, these buildings are considerably east of St. Paul's, which was already toward the eastern side of the traditional center of London commerce for the first half of the 20th century.

The Hell Gate line and the Astoria el are two, independent, free-standing structures. Besides the vertical separation, I am sure they each move slightly according to the wind, train movement, and cold/hot temperature contraction/expansion. Now there would be a 3rd structure to connect the two with no tolerance for any movement of either structure. Very difficult to engineer.

A lot of curvy structures. None of that was there when I was in 1993.

Huh? Engineering has progressed remarkably in the last century. A connecting structure could be built that allows for movement of the two elevated lines.

No, the major part is where the platforms would go. How would you hang a platform off the side of the Hell Gate viaduct? If you could, elevators could handle the height differential. Where to put the turnstiles for a transfer to the BMT would be another problem. The "northbound" tracks being reserved for freight would be another.

Just look at all of BRIDGES, suspension or cantilever that allow for movement of their segments.

If the massive concrete Hell Gate structure at that point moves in the wind, I would be flabbergasted.

How about building the proposed Hell Gate viaduct station just south of the GCP. Then build a two track "shuttle" train that would run from there above the GCP & connect it to the BMT Astoria line at Astoria Blvd?
