Nevertheless, in the center of London there are very few tall buildings. Most are on the eastern side toward Canary Wharf if not quite that far. The City of London itself was until 40 years ago or so quite far east in terms of commercial London.

Similarly, in Paris, La Defense is all the way over on the western edge.

In NYC, once midtown was established, the main centers of commerce did not move.
